01 — About us

We turn “I can’t” into “I just voted.”

icantvote.info started in 2018 after volunteers at a Detroit food bank met dozens of people convinced they were banned from voting — most of them were wrong. A teen with a misdemeanor, a veteran without a current address, a grandma who missed the deadline by one day. All of them could vote.

Since then we've helped over 1.2 million visitors check eligibility, restore rights, get ID, register, and make a plan to vote. We are 100% nonpartisan. We don't tell you who to vote for — we fight for that you can vote.

01

Check

Verify registration, address, party, polling place. Takes 2 minutes. Re-check if you moved, changed name, or skipped elections.

02

Register

Online, by mail, in person, or same-day. You'll need name, DOB, address, ID number. Homeless? Use description of location.

03

Plan

Pick: Election Day, early in-person (2-3 weeks before), or mail ballot. Check ID rules, hours, and ride options. Bring backup ID.

06 — FAQ

Real answers, no jargon

Top questions from our inbox and street outreach.

🔓 I finished prison / parole — am I eligible?

In most states YES, automatically. Florida, Arizona, Tennessee and a few others have extra steps (fees, application). Start restoration 3-6 months before election. We have templates and clinic contacts in our guides.

🪪 What ID can I use if I have no driver's license?

Student ID, tribal ID, utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government mail with name+address, or signed affidavit. 15 states allow you to vote without any ID. Strict states must offer FREE voter photo ID.

🎓 Can I vote in my college state?

Yes. Supreme Court protects student voting at campus address. Bring proof of dorm residence + student ID. You must choose ONE state — voting twice is a felony.

🏠 I'm homeless — how do I register?

List a shelter, soup kitchen, or “corner of 5th and Main, NE side of park” as address + mailing address where you get mail. All states must accept this. Bring a shelter letter if possible, but it's not required federally.

🗳️ What if poll workers say I'm not on the list?

Stay calm, ask for a PROVISIONAL ballot, get receipt, and follow up. Don't leave without voting. Call protection hotline posted at polls. Document names and time.

✉️ Is vote-by-mail safe?

Yes — with tracking, signature match, and drop boxes. Request early, follow instructions exactly, sign, and return ASAP. You can usually track online and fix signature issues.
